About Färgfabriken

Since 1995 Färgfabriken has been producing a rich variety of exhibitions and diverse activities in the fields of art, architecture and urban development. Furthermore Färgfabriken is a meeting place for lively debates, discussions, seminars and serves as a node for many exciting projects that occur off-side.

Färgfabriken’s work is experimental and interdisciplinary. We strive to create and provide the conditions for new thinking, innovative ideas and unusual exhibition projects. These provide our audiences with memorable experiences and often start ongoing debates. Färgfabriken makes room for the unexpected by bringing together different perspectives and interests from the areas of art, architecture and social science.

Producing our exhibitions and projects require us to create points of contact and meetings with other groups and creative individuals including artists, architects and representatives of the business community and public sector alike. This diverse network comes together for interesting meetings in a variety of constellations, providing all of us with new experiences, thoughts and ideas — and often unexpected results.

Over the years Färgfabriken's projects have expanded upon what is considered possible. We have developed the experience needed to lead creative processes towards concrete results — experience that we are happy to share.

Involvement off-site and abroad

Färgfabriken’s engagement with other sites is an important component of our work. Alongside our on-site program, we develop both national and international projects that extend far beyond the walls of our building. This is often initiated at first on-site at Färgfabriken, through partnerships with organisations such as cultural institutions and universities.

Activities may include education, workshops and exhibitions - projects that build upon the general idea of Färgfabriken as a place and a context and subsequently move off-site and abroad. Along the way, new conversations, discussions and experiences unfold; important additions and new perspectives arise that we bring with us into our future work.

Recent off-site projects include the exhibition Building Blocks, whose idea and method has been implemented at Norsk Form in Oslo and now continues to the Swedish Embassy in Berlin, as well as the project New Urban Topologies, in which workshops on urban planning are carried out in several cities in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, in cooperation with local stakeholders from the city, the academy and independent operators within the cultural fields.
